Interest Checks. Empty
PostSubject: Interest Checks.   Interest Checks. EmptyTue May 01, 2012 6:03 pm #1

Before I go into my long-winded hullabaloo we've all come to know and love, I just have a couple of things to say about my abilities as a person, a gamer, and a storyteller:

-My time is extremely limited these days, since my only source of income is my whipmaking. That has to come first. It takes a lot of my time, and it has to be done just right, or I can't use it.

-I'm coming out of hibernation for Em. He invited me to Road to Destiny and I could not say no. My efforts in storytelling my own roleplays are secondary to this. Hell, I'm not sure I can even do it. But I will try.

-The First Rule of Roleplaying will be heavily enforced on any of my storylines. That rule is that the storyteller has final say on any element of the story. I have always respected that rule when I play in others' roleplays, and I expect the same courtesy. Please, please, please, for the sake of my sanity, do not try to overturn a judgment I make on one of my roleplays. There are reasons for every decision I make. I will listen to every word of your argument, if you disagree, but then I will make my decision after that. I will make every effort possible to be flexible on any point I can, but balancing, fair play, plot integrity, and continuity require that I say "no" to some things. I reserve the right to refuse certain characters, ideas, posts, post types, etc, and, if it gets bad enough, to outright kick a player out. I have only had to do that once, and I hope it never happens again. Please understand this point.

-I know for a fact that I'm not the best. I have faults, and I will try to minimize them so that I can make the game fun for everyone. If you feel like I'm screwing up, feel free to make your point. I'll do what I can to correct it. I'm not doing it on purpose, I swear.

At least I had the presence of mind to copy the original thread the other day, in case I changed my mind. I was frustrated beyond measure, but I still took the time to make sure we could still do this. If you want in, you're welcome.

Quote :
Hi, all.

As you may know, I joined the forum not long ago. I'm in one roleplay which is almost ready to start, but I find myself chomping at the bit, so to speak. I wanted to test the waters and find out if there was any interest in some of my roleplays, just to satisfy my desire to get my feet wet.

I'm pretty much comfortable in all genres, but I do have my favorites. I have listed a few of those here. The storylines are mostly planned out, but have room for alteration if the cause is good. I don't forsee any membership limitations or maximum player counts, unless otherwise stated.

This thread is subject to change as more storylines are added, modified, or removed. It is more intended to be a reference for people to check on what is available in my odd, odd little mind than to actually launch any roleplays. If a roleplay receives enough interest, I may start it.

The Guardians' Redemption
First up, we have a medieval fantasy called The Guardians' Redemption. GR is a story about an ancient secret society of mages, called Guardians, who have been the protectors of balance and peace for millenia. In recent years there have been signs of a growing danger which threatens to destabilize the entire fabric of reality: The Blight.

The Blight is, essentially, a paranormal natural disaster of catastrophic proportion, which is endangering the ecosystems of all the nations. Nobody knows what it is, how it started, or how far it has spread. We only know that we have to stop it before it destroys everything.

The Guardians know about it, but are tasked with keeping the peace between nations during this turbulent time. It is up to a group of sturdy adventurers (you) to take the commission by the Felish king and discover the source of the Blight, and end it.

GR is a furry storyline, but humans are allowed. Players must either choose one of the five major races, or create their own. Magic will play a prominent part in the storyline, but not all characters must/should/can be mages. I am more than happy to describe many of the elite classes I have planned for this storyline if you want to know.

Pandora 13
This is a modern-day superhero roleplay, like Marvel or DC. Imagine what the world will be like in 10-20 years, apply a Cyberpunk spin to it, then pump it full of supercharged mutant villains.

For the past decade, several humans have been born into the world with superhuman abilities. These powers range in intensity and in form and function, but almost all are capable of great destruction if misused. The media isn't talking about it, because the Corporations have purchased their silence. The Government refuses to comment, even on its own anti-mutant response teams and mutant research facilities.

It isn't exactly normal to see a mutant, but they are a part of everyday life. People have started to accept them. There is still segregation and hatred, but the police have stopped responding to accidental discharge calls. However, something isn't right about how their numbers are increasing. Furthermore, reports of secret attacks against rival corporations run rampant among conspiracy theorists' websites, but nobody's talking.

Is somebody responsible for the creation of these mutant abilities? Is somebody manufacturing superhuman power? If so, why? What would they stand to gain from it? Does the government have a hand in this?

The only way to know is to run the streets and find out.

Section Six
I've got to find my paper detailling this one, but it's essentially a modern-day spy storyline. War isn't real anymore; not really. People still kill each other, but international conflict is all but staged. The real wars are fought and won with dollars, not bullets. The American government hasn't existed for at least thirty years, having been replaced by a shadow government comprised of six unnamed departments of international and internal affairs offices.

These divisions, or "Sections" employ their own agents, above the law and authorized to take any action necessary to neutralize a threat, from within or without. The higher the number, the greater the responsibility the Section has, from price-fixing the global markets and silencing media leaks to annihilating traitorous citizens or terrorist threats from abroad.

The sixth Section has total authority over all its support Sections. Its job is to make sure the system doesn't fall apart. Its agents are ruthless, cunning, resourceful, and unstoppable.

Are you with them, against them, or do you even know they exist? Can such a system stand without inevitable treachery from its own agents? How does the rest of the world respond to a faceless enemy it can't even find?

Fool's Errand
Science-fiction, Futuristic, Space Exploration. There isn't much detail to this one, I'm afraid. Long story short: The Fool's Errand is a converted scout ship, stolen from its moorings in the United Sol-Force Territories' primary starbase, Hydra Station. Its prototype jump drive makes it the very devil to catch, and its captain has made a lot of personal modifications to increase that difficulty.

With new alien life forms to trade with or conquer, and the mysteries of the galaxy to explore, who would refuse the chance to go on a "fool's errand"?

War Without End

This one is too detailled to provide a 100% briefing here. I can run this storyline during any era from the 1600s to the 32nd century, because there are stories for every moment between. Mostly, I want to focus on what happens after the Darwin Project, and the Year of the Hated, both described below.

CyberTek Industries was the leading manufacturer of computer components and cybernetic implants until it decided to expand. It purchased other companies, or muscled them out through unethical business practices, acquiring manufacutring plants, warehouses, distribution facilities, storefronts, until there was nothing left that did not bear their logo. CTI had its eyes on global domination, financially, and only a war with the US government could stop them.

CTI was into some next-level tech when it began the war that lead to the fall of civilization. One such program, the Darwin Project, sought not only to cause evolution in animals, but to control the path it took. They bred super soldiers specifically engineered to perform in specific environments; cheetahs in the grasslands, amphibious naval teams, eagles in the sky, just to name a few. It would have succeeded if the government hadn't attacked first.

Now, 200 years after the Year of the Hated, the bloodiest, most detrimental conflict ever to touch US soil, mankind exists in tiny pockets of failing society. We've lost a lot of our best tech, and day to day life means grabbing the scrap before your buddy can. There are times when you can't go to breakfast without killing a man first.

And yet, with all of this disaster, there are signs that CTI still reigns supreme. They stir, deep in their safehouses, seeking to reclaim what they've lost.

Are you tough enough to ferret out the warlords responsible for Earth's destruction? What will you do if you find them?

Let me know what you guys think.

I personally like Pandora 13 the most. It's not only a completely different type of roleplay compared to Road to Destiny, it's also something I don't think I've personally tried yet. I definitely love the idea, and I love just the name. Though, Pandora 13 wouldn't mean there would need to be 13 heroes, right? Cuz that is not in our member-base as of yet.

Eeeeeh, I wish I could tell you what Pandora 13 is, but that would give away too much. If that's the one I run, you'll find out!

I can run that with as many or as few members as we have, since I have loads of NPCs created for it.

I'm casting my vote for Pandora 13. I found the old word document that has the original story in it and, after reading what I had written, I have to believe I can make it work. There are things that need changing, but we can iron that out when the time comes.

I'm leaving this poll up, so that people can really get a feel for what they like. New members that join can vote as well, which will give me an idea of how interest is changing over time. For now, I'm going to wait and see which one gets the most votes. I will let everyone know when I'm ready to put any of these up.

Thanks for reading!

I won't say much here, except that I don't believe what you say is true BW. I can't persuade you to change your mind, but note that I do believe you'd be great at any of the RP ideas you had listed here.

So...apparently I killed Pandora 13 with intermittent hiatuses (hiatii?). I'm willing to start up another if there are three interested parties. Interest checks are go.

If you have previously voted, it is possible to cancel your vote and place it again. This will help me to determine what people are looking for. The roleplay which receives the most votes will be the roleplay I set up.

I will admit to a certain annoyance at having spent so much time on Pandora 13, just to have it end prematurely, but such is the nature of things. We're a small forum, with few users and active lifestyles. I suppose interest waned. I will do better next time.

My vote is for Fool's Errand, for which I have had several ideas. For those worried about technology, I will be posting a separate Tech Thread in the OOC section, detailling any technology which might be of note in that universe. I can, on request, detail any other tech a player is interested in, as well as accept player-designed technologies which do not conflict with the storyline or universe.

I look forward to the vote.
